effects of earthquakes

Earthquakes cause alot of damaging effects. They damage buildings, roads, bridges etc and worst case can kill humans. Sometimes they can also cause landslides. Other then destroying buildings and bridges they can also occur in the ocean which cause tsunamis or as some people know them as tidal waves. Here is a picture of a powerful earthquake that destroyed a bridge!

What are earthquakes?

An earthquake is caused by plates push against each other, movment of the earths crust along the plates this is called tectonic activity.Earthquakes can also be related to volcanos and their eruptions. but mostly earthquakes are caused by the plates. When the plates are pushing against each other they are building up pressure. after a while of this happening the plates press against each other and this results in giving off energy which creates seismic waves.
